CFD Brokers Expand Trading Menus From Romanian Shares to Leveraged ETFs

by

Interactive Brokers and Saxo expanded their investment menus today (Thursday), adding a national stock exchange and 116 exchange-traded funds, respectively. The launches widen access in different directions as platforms compete to hold more of a client’s portfolio in one account.

One addition is geographic. Eligible Interactive Brokers clients can trade Romanian stocks on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB). The other adds product depth, with Saxo Japan listing funds tied to broad markets, individual companies, leverage and option-based income strategies.

For Romania’s exchange, international distribution is part of the attraction. “Every new gateway matters,” BVB Chief Executive Officer Remus Vulpescu said in the Interactive Brokers announcement.

IBKR Opens Another Route Into Romanian Stocks

Interactive Brokers said clients can add Romanian equities to portfolios that already span more than 170 markets. The same mobile, web and desktop accounts used for other exchanges support the BVB connection.

Interactive Brokers is not the first international platform to open that route. NAGA introduced direct access to Romanian shares in March 2025 and described itself at the time as the first global retail broker to do so.

BVB entered the rollout after a year of unusually large gains. Its BET price index rose 46.2% in 2025, while the BET-TR total-return index, which includes reinvested dividends, gained 55.2%, according to BVB’s annual report.

Thursday’s formal announcement followed a July 23 report by Romania Insider that BVB securities had already appeared on the Interactive Brokers platform. IBKR’s published pricing shows a 0.28% commission with a RON 10 minimum and an annual custody charge of 0.1% on RON-denominated positions.

Saxo Adds Leverage, Themes and Option Strategies

Saxo Bank Securities Japan added 116 ETFs to its local product range. Some also support options trading, although the announcement did not say how many of the new funds have that feature.

The selection extends well beyond conventional index exposure. It includes the Direxion Daily COIN Bull 2X ETF, which targets twice Coinbase’s daily move, and the Direxion Daily MSCI South Korea Bull 3X ETF, which targets three times the daily change in its reference index.

Two listed products target twice the daily performance of SpaceX shares: the GraniteShares 2x Long SpaceX Daily ETF and the Leverage Shares 2X Long SPCX Daily ETF. Their objectives apply to daily returns, not twice the cumulative return over a longer holding period.

Other additions cover artificial intelligence, humanoid robotics, blockchain, aerospace and defense, memory semiconductors and covered-call income. The list also includes the State Street SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 ETF and Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF, both marked as supporting options trading.

Brokers Broaden Access Through Different Structures

Gemini added commission-free trading in thousands of US-listed securities on July 7. Apex Clearing acts as custodian and clearing broker, while Nasdaq supplies real-time market data, according to the crypto company’s release.

Bitget used a similar partnership model when it launched Stock+ on June 22. Bitget said orders settle through regulated US brokers and give users ownership of the underlying shares, instead of tokenized or synthetic exposure.

Plus500 went in another direction one day later. It began offering 24/5 contracts for difference on selected shares and ETFs. The longer trading window does not give the customer ownership or voting rights in the referenced company.

Webull reached beyond public exchanges on June 23 through Monark Markets. Accredited investors can buy interests in special-purpose vehicles holding late-stage private-company investments, with participation limited to no more than 99 eligible investors per vehicle.

Interactive Brokers has also been adding national venues. It opened Korea Exchange-listed equities in May, becoming the first major US-based broker to provide direct access.

Interactive Brokers added South Korea’s Nextrade alternative trading system in June. The initial Korea rollout followed earlier additions in Korean derivatives and Taiwan.

Product availability remains conditional. Interactive Brokers limits BVB trading to eligible clients, while Saxo’s 116-fund announcement applies to its Japanese unit.

The peer products remain subject to their own jurisdictional or investor-status restrictions.
