Crypto.com’s Karl Mohan Departs after 5 Years

by

Crypto.com’s longtime executive Karl Mohan has left the exchange after almost five years. He was most recently the EVP for Financial Services and GM International at the crypto exchange.

“Five years in crypto is a long time,” he wrote in a LinkedIn post announcing his departure.

“It certainly was long enough to watch the industry find its footing, long enough to build and deliver things that matter, navigate storms that completely tested my resolve, and, most of all, allowed me to work alongside people who genuinely changed how I think and inspired me.”

From Traditional Banking to Crypto

Mohan started his career in the traditional financial services industry. He spent more than four years at National Australia Bank, leaving the company in mid-2019 as Head of Product for Partnerships and Growth. He also spent more than a year at Wirecard.

His role at Crypto.com started in mid-2021 as GM Asia Pacific, and he later took on other responsibilities within the region.

“When I joined Crypto.com, most of my banker friends thought I’d lost the plot,” Mohan wrote. “To be fair, they had a point. Back then, crypto was a dirty word, and bankers weren’t exactly lining up to join.”

“Gradually, not overnight or with one dramatic moment, that changed. The industry matured, crypto is no longer a four-letter word, and those same concerns from bankers slowly became genuine curiosity, then interest, then involvement.”

Meanwhile, Europe is likely to see a purge of crypto exchanges in the next couple of days. As the final 1 July MiCA deadline looms, several big crypto brands, including Binance, could not secure a MiCA licence. That means those exchanges must leave the bloc and stop serving their clients.
